Many of us, myself included, fall victim to self-sabotaging thoughts. This book is a helpful guide to discovering why we do it, and how we can put a stop to this damaging behavior. Weist helps us discover why it is that we hold ourselves back from our true potential due to fear, anxiety and limiting beliefs.

“You change your life when you start doing the truly scary thing, which is showing up exactly as you are.”

One of my favorite quotes from the book. Sometimes being our authentic selves is a struggle. We want to wait until we are ‘perfect’ before we take that leap, move forward, go after what we really want to do or be. This book challenges us to show up, even if it’s scary or makes us feel vulnerable. Embracing the discomfort can help us begin to move forward towards our goals as opposed to remaining stuck in the safety our comfort zones.

“The real glow up isn’t proving people from our past wrong. It is finally feeling so content and hopeful about your future that you stop thinking about them entirely.”

This puts me in mind of one of my favorite quotes of all time, “I don’t care what you think about me. I don’t think about you at all.”  - Coco Chanel

The idea of taking the focus off of proving others wrong or getting revenge and placing it on internal fulfillment is a wonderful reminder that self-mastery is about achieving personal peace, and that is what truly matters.

Even though I very much enjoyed the book, I would have loved to see Weist go into more detail on the steps we can take to lead us to change. I suppose I just wanted a little more because I really flew through this book. I still feel this was an enlightening read for anyone interested in discovering the ‘whys’ behind self-sabotage.

I give this book 4 stars for its thought-provoking insights.
